Simple Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
A Simple Treat That Feels Special
Simple chocolate-covered strawberries are one of those treats that feel quietly special while staying easy to make. The combination of fresh, juicy strawberries and smooth melted chocolate creates a balance that feels familiar and comforting without being overly sweet. They’re the kind of treat that works just as well arranged on a small plate for sharing as they do when you want something simple to enjoy alongside coffee or tea. With just a few ingredients and very little preparation, they bring together freshness, richness, and a little bit of everyday celebration.
A Classic Pair That Always Works
The chocolate sets into a smooth shell that gently cracks when you bite into it, revealing the soft, juicy strawberry inside. The richness of the chocolate melts quickly against the fruit, creating a contrast between creamy and fresh textures in each bite. Dark chocolate adds a slightly bittersweet edge, while milk or white chocolate creates a softer, sweeter finish. Optional toppings bring small layers of crunch or flavor, turning each strawberry into something slightly different while keeping the dessert simple and easy to enjoy.
Ingredients:
- 450–500 g fresh strawberries (about 1 lb), washed and fully dried
For the Chocolate Coating
- 225–285 g chocolate (dark, milk, or white), chopped or chips
- 1 tsp neutral oil (optional, preferred for smoother melting and dipping)
– Keeps chocolate glossy
– Helps chocolate set firmer
– Makes dipping easier
– Improves shelf stability
Optional Texture & Flavor Add-Ons
- Crushed freeze-dried strawberries
- Finely chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios, or peanuts)
- Crushed chocolate sandwich cookies or graham crackers
- Toasted coconut flakes
- Sanding sugar or sprinkles
- Shaved chocolate (use a vegetable peeler or knife)
Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries:
Rinse strawberries gently and dry them completely with paper towels. Let them air dry if needed. Any moisture can prevent the chocolate from sticking properly. - Line a tray for setting the strawberries:
Line a baking sheet or tray with parchment paper and set aside. - Melt the chocolate using a microwave:
Place chopped chocolate in a heat-safe bowl. Microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth. Make sure no water or steam gets into the chocolate, as even a small amount can cause it to seize and become grainy. - Melt the chocolate using the stovetop method (optional):
If you do not have a microwave-safe bowl, place chocolate in a stainless steel or heat-safe bowl and set it over a small pot of gently simmering water. The bottom of the bowl should not touch the water. Stir until chocolate is fully melted and smooth. - Stir in the oil if using:
Mix in the neutral oil until the chocolate is smooth and easy to dip. - Dip the strawberries.
Hold each strawberry by the stem or insert a small stick from the top for easier grip. Dip into melted chocolate, turning to coat most of the berry. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl and gently smooth the coating before placing on the prepared tray. - Add optional toppings:
Place dipped strawberries onto the prepared tray and sprinkle toppings while the chocolate is still soft so they stick. - Let the chocolate set:
Allow strawberries to rest at room temperature until chocolate firms, or refrigerate briefly if needed. - Serve or store:
Enjoy once chocolate is set. Store strawberries in a cool place and serve the same day for best texture and freshness.
Storage
• Store chocolate-covered strawberries in a single layer in an airtight container.
• Keep refrigerated for freshness, but avoid covering tightly with plastic wrap directly on the strawberries to reduce moisture buildup.
• Bring strawberries to room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before serving for best flavor and texture.
• Best enjoyed the same day they are made.
• Do not freeze, as strawberries release moisture and become soft after thawing.
Note
• Make sure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to help chocolate stick properly.
• Use good-quality chocolate for smoother melting and better flavor.
• Melt chocolate slowly to prevent overheating or seizing.
• If chocolate becomes too thick while dipping, gently rewarm and stir until smooth.
• Add toppings immediately after dipping so they stick before the chocolate sets.
• Let chocolate set at room temperature when possible to help keep the finish smooth and glossy.
